Essay

The thesis work is dedicated to two undeservingly forgotten works by Dmitri Shostakovich, namely the Second Symphony ("Dedication to October", 1927) and the Third Symphony ("The First of May", 1929) which are out of performance and musicological attention practically since the day of premiere. This thesis is aimed to erase the fixed stereotype of apprehension of these symphonies as unsuccessful and exceptionally booked pieces and the other target is to restore their identity and adequacy leveled in musicology. The Second symphony is represented as a result of a short period of experiments and innovations in composer’s work, his active enthusiasm for mould-breaking art. The Third Symphony as a counterbalance to existing image in musicology is represented as much deeper and complicated work confidant to Shostakovich’s mature style.
