Butenko E. Comparative estimation of the methods of adjuvant poly-chemotherapy in the complex treatment of breast cancer (randomized study).

Object - Adjuant polychemotherapy methods for cases of operable breast cancer. The purpose - To improve remote and short - term results, when treating breast cancer, owing to adjuvant intra-arterial polychemotherapy. The methods - embrace ultrasound, radiology, bone scintigraphy, CT, immunohistochemistry, pathohistology, clinical studies, laboratory examinations, statistics. Novelty - The findings from clinical, laboratory and biochemical investigations prove low toxicity of chemical drugs introduced intra-arterially for breast cancer patients. The data from randomized studies prove more high efficacy of adjuvant intra-arterial polychemotherapy versus adjuvant systemic polychemotherapy in complex treatment for breast cancer patients. Results - The method evolved for adjuvant intra-arterial polychemotherapy allows to extend indications for organopreserving operations drasticaly, to lessen the number of locoregional recurrences, to increase the period of recurrence - free course and over all cumulative survival rate. The results of clinical use of the methods on the base of intra-arterial polychemotherapy in adjuvant mode convincingly prove their high efficacy, permit to solve a number of important practical problems when treating breast cancer patients, improve medical, vocational and social rehablitation for patients. The methods designed for complex treatment of breast cancer using adjuvant intra-arterial polychemotherapy, which are evolved by the oncology chair of the M.Gorky Donetsk National Medical University, are adopted in practical use at the Donetsk Regional Antitumoral Centre, at the Dnepropetrovsk Oncological Dispensary, at the Municipal Inter-district Oncological Dispensary, the town of Mariupol and at the Municipal Oncological Dispensary, the town of Gorlovka.
