Essay

The paper reviews history of music and dramatic theatre on the territory of Right-bank Ukraine during the first half of the XIX century. On the basis of analysis of the archive sources, the press material and memoirs reconstructs panorama of the region’s cultural life in the given epoch. The paper covers the issue of theatre art’s propagation carried out by means of functioning of the private estate orchestras and theatres, amateur studios, travelling enterprises. The research appeals to historical and cultural context to trace the interaction between art trends, which determined the specificity repertoire of the Ukrainian stage of that time. Particular attention is paid to the research of intercultural contacts and their importance in the forming of professional dramatic and music theatre.
