Yushkovets I. Communicative Strategies and Tactics in Political Discourse of FRG Chancellors (based on government statements and political speeches)

The thesis is devoted to the investigation of communicative strategies and tactics in the political discourse of the FRG Chancellors. Analysis of the political speeches and government statements permitted to point out and describe six basic strategies to ensure cooperative speech activity. Among them are the following: statehood, positioning of Germany, unity, admitting guilt, power succession and positive self-presentation. Each of these strategies is realized on the tactical level; the thesis discusses fifteen communicative tactics. It has been found that the peculiarity of linguistic realization of the communicative strategies and tactics of political discourse of the FRG Chancellors is the discourse-formation role of the nominal parts of speech (i.e. nouns, adjectives, pronouns), which function as discourse markers of communicative strategies and tactics. Individual characteristics intrinsic to each Chancellor in verbal and non-verbal communication have been registered and studied.
