Essay

The PhD thesis is devoted to development of two-levels dynamic driving ideology for cholesteric liquid crystal displays (ChLCD's). The new method for an approximation of electro-optical characteristics of ChLCD is demonstrated. It allows to obtain sufficient quantity of approximated characteristics only due to the measuring of some special electro-optical characteristics. Also, two methods for determination of allowable deviation of LC-layer thickness for ChLCD are developed. First, "wedge" method - is a method of the direct measuring of this parameter on wedge-shaped cell. Second, "dynamic hysteresis" method - is a method of the indirect measuring. It allows to do all experimental measuring of dynamic hysteresis characteristics in the automatic mode on the standard cells with the fixed LC-layer thickness. Also, two new waveform composition methods ("improved" and "2-in-5") and two new pipeline algorithms ("compensative" and "prompt") were proposed. Thus data-pattern-depended and row-number-depended defects are eliminated and addressing speed is increased.
