Tuchinskaya T. Understanding of Musical Text: The Information Theory Aspect

The dissertation is devoted to the problem of understanding of a musical text in the aspect of information theory. This aspect of the problem of understanding of the musical text is carried out by formalization of the process of understanding on the basis of application of combinatory methods and the theory of frames by the programs of algorithmic composition. The attempt of formalization of the process of understanding of musical text is offered by creation of the program of algorithmic composition, which is able to generate musical texts in the style of V. Silvestrov using the stochastic and combinatory principles. The computer programming considered in the dissertation in the area of analysis and synthesis of sound elements and musical compositions exposes the deep mechanisms of musical thinking and phenomenon of «understanding» in the process of perception of a musical piece.
