Essay

Object - tetrachlormethane-induced oxidative stress and corrective influence of carotenoproducing yeasts Phaffia rhodozyma biomass and beta-carotene. Aim of the study - to establish the influence of P. rhodozyma biomass and beta-carotene on processes of lipid and protein peroxidation as well as on antioxidant defense in liver, brain, heart and bone marrow tissue of rats under tetrachlormethane-induced oxidative stress. Methods: biochemical, statistical. Feeding rats with yeast P. rhodozyma biomass improves prooxidant-antioxidant balance. It was shown that addition of yeast biomass and beta-carotene reduce toxic effect of tetrachlormethane, decrease accumulation of lipid and protein peroxidation products and antioxidant enzymatic activity in heart, brain tissue, liver erythroid and granolomonocytic cells of bone marrow was normalized. Comparative analysis of antioxidant influence of carotene-containing yeasts and beta-carotene has revealed that biomass had better protective effect. Area of use - biochemistry, pathophysiology, clinical toxicology.
