Object of study: heteroaromatic nitrogen-containing derivatives of 3-hydroxychromone. Purpose: study of hydrogen bonding and intramolecular proton phototransfer reaction photophysics in a series of heterocyclic derivatives of 3-hydroxychromone. Methods: absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy; NMR 1H and mass-spectroscopy for structure indentification; X-ray structure analysis; quantum-chemical modeling. Spectral and fluorescent properties of a series of 3-hydroxychromone derivatives were studied. An approach to develop highly effective luminophores on the 3-hydroxychromone bicycle basis was proposed. Proton phototransfer process in the molecules with reverse polarization under excitation was investigated. Presence of two pathways for hydrogen bonding in particular heterocyclic nitrogen-containing derivatives of 3-hydroxychromones was modeled and experimentally demonstrated. Field of application: design of fluorescent dyes and probes, fundamental research on proton phototransfer photophysics.
