Essay

The objects are the сreative experiments of Henry Roberts as a novelist. The aim is to find out the character of his creative search and its correlation with the traditions and literary trends of English Renaissance during the analysis of poetics of Henry Roberts' novels. The methods are the strategy of receptive aesthetics, methodology of a "New Historicism", analysis of the "literary formulas". It is proved that Roberts' novels belong to the segment of fomular literature. The writer avoids intellectualism, complicated problems and philosophy, he doesn't pay much attention to the aesthetic aspects, but is mainly concerned about the effectiveness of using literary formulas. The complex analysis of his novels within the framework of popular literature allowed to demonstrate the coincidence of his creative search with the tastes of the new reading audience - representatives of the non-elitist Elizabethan audience - as well as clarified our views on the ways of the development of the English Renaissanceprose fiction. Application sphere is an educational process.
