The research is devoted to elaboration of the criminalistical characteristics and to formation the basis of investigation of narcotics smuggling, psychotropic substances, their analogues and precursors trafficking .The separate elements of criminalistical characteristics of narcotics smuggling (the subject of the criminal encroachment, the ways of the crime, the conditions, the place and time of conducting the crime, the personality of a criminal) have been analysed and the certain correlative dependency have been determined. The peculiarities of revealing the features of narcotics smuggling and the initial period of investigation of the given category of crimes have been determined.
