Essay

The object of the research: directive modal particles, functioning in the German directive discourse. The purpose of the research: is to define the scope of directive modal particles as well as to determine cognitive-semantic and pragmatic-discursive features of directive modal particles in the contemporary German. The methods of the research: intentional, contextual-situational, cognitive design method, components’ analysis and paraphrase methods, methods of illocutionary, conversational, structural-semantic and discursive analysis, elements of statistical analysis. The material of the research: 2350 statements containing modal directive particles which verbalize directive speech acts collected by the method of throughout selection from the literary works of the contemporary German, Austrian and Swiss literature with a total amount of approximately 3700 pages. The scientific novelty of the research: the thesis is the first research defining cognitive-semantic and pragmatic-discursive features ofdirective modal particles in the Ukrainian Germanic linguistics, the research determines the role of the modal particles in the directive speech act and based on it defines the subclass of German directive modal particles, describes cognitive-semantic and pragmatic-discursive parameters of the investigated modal particles. The scientific value of the research: the conclusions contribute to enhancing the scientific data of discursive characteristics of auxiliary speech parts, extends the discursive theory with the conclusion related to the important role of modal particles in the German directive discourse. The practical value of the research: in the academic process while developing the courses of Theoretical Grammar of German (parts “Morphology”, “Syntax”), Lexicology (part “Lexical meaning”), in the advanced seminars on the cognitive pragmatic linguistics and the discourse theory, in the research papers of students and postgraduate students.
