Essay

The method of diallyldisulfide synthesis has been modified leading to a high yield of diallyloligosulfides. Nine copper(I) and one copper(II) halides complexes have been obtained using the alternating-current electrochemical techniques and, partially, by direct interaction between substrates. X-ray structure determination and crystalochemical analysis have been performed. The donor properties of diallyloligosulfides sulfur atoms to Cu(I) decrease from diallylsulfide to diallyltetrasulfide. The correlation between the strength of Cu-S interactions and the lengthening of the S-S bonds is shown and discussed. The flexibility of the polysulfide group, the heterodentate nature of the organic ligands and their chelating tendency result in complex structures due to the presence of several crystallographically independent CuX units. As a result, the different inorganic fragments are often formed in one structure.
