Essay

The thesis deals with the study of the spatial distribution of quasars based on the Fifth Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data. A new approach to determination of the spatial correlation function involving a permutation method of random catalogue generation is developed. The parameters of the spatial two point correlation function gamma = 1.75+/-0.29 and r_0 = 5.76+/-0.94 h^–1 Mpc are found. Luminosity and redshift dependence of the quasar clustering is investigated. The existence of marginal dependence on optical luminosity is established and the absence of such dependence on luminosity in infrared and radio range is shown. Properties of the quasar pairs and associations and field quasars are studied. It was found that for isolated pairs the number of bright quasars is 2–3 times larger than the number of faint ones, for field quasars this number is 4 times larger, and between the field quasars the number of bright objects is 1.5 times smaller than the number of the faint ones. The distortionsof the redshift-space correlation function due to quasars non-Hubble motions are investigated. The value random peculiar velocity dispersion is estimated to be 690 km/s. The cosmological models with the scalar field which mimic the redshift dependence of the Hubble parameter are considered, and it is shown that introduction of the cosmological scalar field leads to some degeneracy on Omega_m parameter.
