Zhovtani R. The German language Area of Yuri Klen: The Conflict of Identities.

The analysis of the German languages area of Yuri Klen suggests that the mental-linguistic phenomen of a poet belongs to "on-the-edge existence", being a transmitter of a national culture in the multicultural environment. Strong maternal traditions in Clen's family, as well as his archetypical memory of Ukrainian culture formed the basis of his growing into "the Ukrainian poet of German origin" -here originates his free artistic operation with three languages, and, as an example, series of works, which at first were written in Russian or German, and then translated (or rewritten) in Ukrainian ("Anthony and Cleopatra", "Troubadour Gofroua Ryodel" at first were written in Russian, and "Joan d'Arc" - in German). This fact was also fixed in comments on Yuri Klen. "The poet-"colonist", who sharply experiences the conflict of identities, supports the genetic-cultural tradition of his ancestors (by not dissolving in multicultural environment) on one side, and on the other side, he touches upon spiritual treasury of other cultures. It is clearly seen in the Spiritual Structure of Yuri Klen, his life line, movements between "Russian, "Ukrainian" and "German" cultures", that resulted in the original model of his perception of life with the dominant accent on Ukrainian mentality. This dissertation is a first attempt to explore the German language area of Yuri Klen's works, to find out the conflict of identities in his linguistic cultural sphere and the domination of his Ukrainian origin in it, the ability to express the power of a poet by his Ukrainian "I". This study was conducted on the basis of the well-known and difficult to access archival sources with further systematic exploration of German-language poetries of Yuri Klen.
