Skrypniak T. Rhetoric Aspect of a German Sermon Prosody (An Experimental Phonetic Study).

This thesis focuses on the analysis of the rhetoric aspect of German sermon prosody as a factor of speech influence on a recipient with regard to the aspect of his emotional involvement and persuasion. Specific modification of prosodic parameters (pitch contour, prominence, rhythm, tempo and pauses) in a German sermon contributes to the achievement of the main goal set by the priest: to captivate a parishioner by the message of the sermon so that he not only remembers the speech but also implements moral norms and principles represented in it. Interaction of prosodic components in a sermon that is being delivered causes the emergence of connotative meaning in the form of different associations, emotions and responses which affect perception, understanding and interpretation of the sermon by a recipient.
