Essay

Study was conducted among the Chernobyl NPP accident consequences clean-up workers (ACCW) of 1986-1987 period having 0.1-99.9 cGy absorbed radiation doses and in residents of contamination zone #4 having 5.09 mGy average absorbed dose. Along with routine factors the ionizing radiation under 25 cGy doses sets conditions for the high risk of peptic ulcer (OR=4.67, 95% CI 2.84-7.71). Disease genesis and course were found being dependent on the absorbed radiation dose and age of survivors. It was found that in the immediate years after the accident (i.e. in 1989-1991) the HPAS was of important role in pathogenesis of erosive/ulcerative lesions of gastric/duodenal zone. Serum content of corticotrophin, cortisol and gastrin was found being dependent on absorbed dose values (range 25 cGy and higher) in ACCW. Personality structure disorders were found in ACCW having erosive and ulcerative lesions of stomach and duodenum. Psychological testing indices elevation correlated directly with serum cortisol levels and absorbed dose values.
