Scientific approaches to investigations of word-building status of the composite words in modern linguistics are systematized in the thesis. The author's position as to the differentiation of compound words formed by juxtaposition and composition is stated. This study determines common and different ways of axiologically marked compound formation. Common rules of lexical type of axiologically marked compound motivation in English and Ukrainian are established. Moreover the peculiarity of derivational, phonetic and morphological motivation of comparative nominations are singled out. Tendencies to investigate axiologically marked compound formation are defined. Following the criteria of dictionary indications, the identifier of evaluation in the lexicographic interpretation of the word meaning and emotional value, methods of comparison of axiologically marked compound nominations are introduced.
