Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the theoretical definition of the notion "the author's reflection", its role and place among other notions relating to the author's problem (the author's consciousness, the author's subjectivity, the author's concept, the author's presence). The problem of the author in a literary work is considered, in particular such aspects of it as "a biographical author", "the author's image", "the implied author". The models, types and forms of the author's reflection in a literary work are investigated: the author's reflection, the character's reflection, the reader's reflection. The theses which have been worked out are applied while analyzing the definite literary material - John Fowles's prose, in particular the novels and the essays. The basic forms of the reflection in John Fowles's creative work are pointed out: titles and epigraphs, the author's argumentations and digressions, the experiment, the character who reflects, the reader who reflects. The models of the author's reflection are examined. The functions of the author's reflection in John Fowles's prose are defined.
