Essay

The Gothic script is studied in the wide spectrum: the genesis and the specialties of extension in Western Europe, penetration and the extension in the Ukrainian lands. Expansion of the specific spectrum of Gothic script is related to formation of Lviv chancellery forms in the second half of the XIVth century. In the XVth century the use of the Gothic script broadens substantially, in particular, next to a book a Gothic cursives appears. The characteristic feature of the first half of the XVIth century was the subsequent evolution of the Gothic script and semiscript that resulted into the formation of the Late Gothic forms.
