Essay

The object of the research is English somatic phraseological units with the meaning of interpersonal relationships. The purpose of the research is a complex analysis of the language properties and functional characteristics of the English somatic phraseologisms with the meaning of interpersonal relationships proceeding from specific features of their formation; ideographic and linguocultural characteristics; structural, semantic, pragmatic, stylistic aspects of their usual and occasional variants; their ability of realizing textual categories. The methods employed are: linguistic description; phraseological identification; conceptual analysis; component analysis; linguocultural analysis; elements of quantitative analysis. The scientific novelty: it is for the first time that on the basis of structural semantic and semantic cognitive approaches a group of English somatic phraseological units with the meaning of interpersonal relationships has been singled out and analyzed. The theoretical value of the research: its statements and conclusions are a contribution to the theory of phraseology, to phraseological semantics in particular, linguistic stylistics, the linguistics of the text and the theory of intertextuality. Analysis of the cultural aspect of the phraseologisms semantics contributes to the characteristics of the English world view. The practical value: the research results can be used in the courses of general linguistics, lexicology and stylistics of the English language, linguistics of the text; creating an English thesaurus "Interpersonal relationships" (with commentaries).
