Essay

The instrumented vertical impact testing machine and the high-speed data acquisition system for impact testing of Charpy specimens are developed. The test temperature dependences of total deformation and fracture energy are determined. The average ductile and quasibrittle crack propagation velocity in Charpy specimens are estimated.A numerical modeling technique of impact tests of Charpy specimens is developed with use of GTN model. The GTN model parameters are determined from special experiments. The calculations techniques that were developed were applied for calculation of crack propagation and arrest in a reactor pressure vessel wall at thermal shock.
