Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the improvement of pancreatic exocrine function deficiency diagnosis (PEFD) and treatment in diabetes mellitus (DM) type 1 and 2 patients. The studies have shown that sensitivity and specificity of fecal elastase–1 (FE–1) detection in diagnosis of pancreatic exocrine function deficiency were 90 and 95% respectively and even were higher than that of Lund test (85 and 90% respectively). Method of PEFD diagnosis with FE–1 detection has considerable advantages: high sensitivity and specificity, simplicity, no need of special diet, international standardization. All this allows wide application of this method in patients with pancreatic diseases and DM especially with its long and complicated course.
