Essay

The research focuses on creative work of Thomas Pynchon, one of the most distinguished American postmodernists. The analysis of his artistic search is made in the context of the literature of the "black humour" school and American postmodernism. Also the writer's evolution in the aspect of his revealing of new artistic forms as well as active use of such postmodernistic features as irony, parody, allusion are traced. Special attention is paid to the author's artistic system, to the peculiarities of writer's narration's specific model, which is often represented as an integral whole of "black humour" and postmodernism. Basic conceptual ideas of Pynchon's artistic thought with their philosophical basis are revealed. The aesthetic registers of the au-thor's stylistic system and his creation of postmodernistic novel's variety are analyzed. Pynchon's organic connection with other distinguished American postmodernists was traced here. The writer's novels and short stories written in the second half of the XX-th century are in the centre of research.
