Essay

The present thesis presents the first attempt of the analysis of Gore Vidal's oeuvre on the ground of Mythological Critics and aims at ascertaining the author's artistic method as mythopoetic manner. The main peculiarities of Gore Vidal's narrative manner are examined in the field of history-mythological discourse as the formative factor of his prose. The key device of the author's narration is determined to be mythologization. The author's novelty concerns for about the usage of mythopoetic devices in contemporary historical and political novels. On the basis of integral and differential strategy of analysis of seven novels of "The Golden Age Saga, 1776-1952" is considered as a single whole with a holistic artistic concept. The form of literary memoirs and biographic literature is studied to be dominant. It is stated that the key factor of the author' esthetics is historical method enriched by mythopoetics.
