Essay

The thesis work is dedicated to the problems of Podillia rural settlement system forming and development at different historic stages. The process of establishing and development of Podillia historical-geographical investigations has been analyzed. Developed are the methods of comprehensive historical-geographical analysis of the region rural settlements system. Using toponimic method, the retrospective evaluation of the role and importance of factors influencing the forming and development of Podillia rural settlement system at different stages of society forming have been performed. Five historical-geographical stages of the region rural settlement system forming and particular features of different types of rural settlements during the different phases of history have been revealed and analyzed. Detailed analysis of transformation of the contemporary structure of Podillia settlements has been performed.
