Zadorizna N. Prosodic Markers of Gender Variation in Speech (Experimental Phonetic Research of English Radio Advertising Discourse)

The research is devoted to the complex analysis of prosodic peculiarities of English radio advertising discourse including gender variation of speech. Experimental phonetic corpus is represented by two speech samples - pre-prepared (narrators) and quasi-spontaneous (actors). The study was carried out on the basis of different types of communicative and pragmatic utterances that differ according to the degree of prosodic prominence and implicitness / explicitness of the influence function expression. Prosodic markers of gender variation in speech of the analyzed categories of speakers include pitch, intensity, speech rate and voice quality characteristics.
