Essay

The technique for studying the stress relaxation under the action an impulse electric current (IEC) was developed that takes into account the preheating effect. New experimental data on the tensile stress relaxation in specimens under the action of high-density IEC for a number of metallic materials were obtained. The effect of the initial stress level, high-density current and preheating temperature on the relaxation was established. The procedures for investigating the residual stresses (RS) relaxation in joints (welded joints, metal/composite), coatings and in a material after the surface treatment (grinding) using the IEC were developed. A significant decrease in RS and their redistribution as a result of the IEC treatment are shown.
