Lian Y. Beijing Opera as a musical and aesthetic phenomenon

The dissertation research is dedicated to exploring the ways of development of Beijing Opera in historical aspect and comparison with the Italian opera. Based on the analysis of scientific and musical literature, the dissertation has defined the characteristics of Chinese opera and has shown the value and prospects of East-West dialogue in the opera genre. Specific features of the Chinese opera art have been disclosed by the example of classical Beijing Opera, which among all forms of the traditional Chinese theater has received the greatest reputation. It reviewed the main schools of Beijing Opera, the communication and performing traditions of the genres of the Chinese opera and the main features of the similarities and differences between the Beijing and the Italian opera schools. The peculiarities of the creative process between the Chinese and European opera have been compared in this work, which even has given the examples of the impaction (exteriorization) of European art experience on the Chinese opera stage.
