Essay

The object is a phenomenon of Eros in ancient and eastern Christian cultures. The aim is to reveal the ethical and soteriological sense and significance of the Eros conception in the Orthodox religious philosophical tradition on the basis of historical and philosophical analysis. The methods used in the research are historical and comparative approaches, scientific, hermeneutical, phenomenological, structural ones and classifications. The main features of Eros concept in the Orthodox tradition based on the analysis of original Greek texts as well as those texts translated into Old Russian and Russian languages have been identified and classified. The definitions of the concept of Eros in the Orthodox tradition have been provided in the research. It highlights the religious and philosophical sources underlying the evolution of the Orthodox concept of Eros which supports the claim of its unique character. The connections between the Byzantine Orthodox concept of Eros and the Old Russian tradition, Ukrainian and Russian religious philosophy have been explored. The application sphere is training courses.
