Theoretical foundations of Ivan Franko’s views of law origin, the notion of law in political and legal concept of the thinker have been thoroughly studied on the basis of the scientific heritage, publicistic works and letters of Ivan Franko. The dissertation offers the data that Ivan Franko was interested in customary law issues. Many of his research works and newspaper publications reflect Ivan Franko’s views of the stages in the development of the Ukrainian law. The thesis is the first ever presentation of draft acts worked out by Ivan Franko; the scholar’s position with regard to law formation has been outlined.
