Essay

The dissertation focuses upon the new integrated approach to the comparative study of anthropocentric metaphors and similes in the Ukrainian and English languages. The linguoaxiological nature and methodology of the contrastive studies of Ukrainian and English anthropocentric metaphors and similes were determined in the paper. The taxonomy of the linguistic units under investigation has been established according to the hypero-hyponimical relations as anthropic and anthropometrical units, which have been classified in lexical and semantic spaces of zoonims, phitonims and artefacts. Common and divergent motivations of axiological meanings in the internal and external forms of Ukrainian and English axiologically marked anthropocentric metaphors and similes were identified in the dissertation.
