The dissertation is devoted to the investigation of the activity of the L'viv Polish historic societies of the last quarter of 19th and 30-s of the 20th centuries. The reasons and causes of the foundation of the societies have been revealed. The organizing structure of these institutions and the financing of their scientific activity have been explained. The reconstruction of the origin, national and professional contingent of the historic societies have been accomplished. The main directions of the scientific activity of the historical societies have been analyzed.
