Holovats'ka N. Formation and Development of the English Sensorial Verbs: Functional and Cognitive Aspects

The thesis deals with the research of formation and development of the English sensorial verbs in the diachronic, synchronic and cognitive approaches to the investigation. The etymology of the English sensorial verbs and the sources of their origin in four historical periods of the English language are defined. An etymological vocabulary of the English sensorial verbs is compiled. Quantitative and qualitative changes in their development, the proportion between vernacular and loan sensorial verbs are investigated. In each historical period it is defined their structural, semantic, cognitive and functional characteristics including semantic, lexical and syntactic collocation of the sensorial verbs and their function of a quasicopula.
