Object of research is correction of metabolic disturbances against the background of insulin deficiency and insulin resistance. The aim of the study - to ground the mussels extract using for treatment of metabolic, structural and functional manifestation of insulin deficiency and insulin resistance. Research methods - physiological, biochemical, biophysical, molecular and biological, histological, morphometrical, polarographical and statistical. For the first time the complex correction of metabolic disturbances inherent in experimental absolute or relative insulin deficiency and insulin resistance with the mussel extract supplementation was revealed. Using experimental models of insulin deficiency it was ground the expediency of simultaneously supplementation of the mussel extract with metformin for increasing glucose-lowering properties of the biguanide and to optimize its antidiabetic effect. The results of this experimental study will be basis for the development of new complex treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus for the purpose of pancreatic betacell and hepatocyte functional activity preservation.
