Lazarenko O. Idiomatic Derivatives in Modern German: Sructure and Semantics.

This thesis focuses on the study of structural and semantic features of tertiary nomination one-word units derived from German idiomatic expressions. The thesis analyzes and describes word-formation modes, as well as types and models of idiomatic derivatives while estimating their productivity and thus outlining tendencies of the German language development and the role of idiomatic derivation in its word formation system. Structural, semantic and grammatical features of formative idioms have been established. Factors predetermining the choice of a formative unit component as the basis for further word-formation have been identified. Extralingual and intralingual prerequisites of the emergence of idiomatic derivatives in German have been revealed. Specificity of idiomatic derivatives' semantic structure has been elucidated in the course of comparative semantic analysis of formative idioms and their derivatives.
