Essay

In the dissertation the second half of Twentieth and the beginning of Twenty-first centuries' Anglo-American historiography on problems of Ukraine's social history in times of Stalinist and Khrushchev's rule is analyzed. The peculiarities of development of Ukrainian studies during this period are estimated. It is proved that in methodological and conceptual sense these studies were and still are the inseparable part of Anglo-American sovietology on the whole. Three main stages in development of Soviet studies are distinguished - totalitarianism, revisionism and present-day period, which of them are brought into correlation with dynamics of research on the Ukrainian problems. The main attention is given to subject range of these investigations and their phases which determined the subject-chronological principle used to structurize the materials. In the dissertation the particularities of theories on Soviet social order, its social stratification, and mechanism of social control, nature and types of social deviations are measured. The works on specific characters of linguistic-communication, cultural, scientific, educational spheres of the Ukrainian Soviet society, on the state-church relationships in Ukraine are analyzed.
