The thesis is concerned with an extensive research into the issue of linguistic representation of the functional-semantic space of augmentativity in modern English. Specific features of the space functioning on different language layers have been identified; the inventory of morphological, lexical and syntactic means of expressing augmentativity has been compiled; the nucleus and the periphery of the given space have been determined; certain criteria of analysis of augmentatives have been formulated. Application of these criteria allowed the author to carry out a unified and systematic investigation into linguistic expression of augmentativity.
