The author of the thesis researched general and theoretical aspects of state forms of government. Besides conceptions and features of state government, the criteria of their classification and factors the determine the choice of a certain model of power are analysed in thesis. The classified scheme of state forms of government is made more exact. On the basis of latest experiment of constitutionalism the main characteristics of different modifications of state forms of government are discovered. The genesis of the forms of the Ukraine’s state government is analysed, the institutional and law specification of power model, secured by 1996 Constitution of Ukraine is discovered in the thesis. The author made an attempt to evaluate the level of the effectiveness of the amendments suggested on the basis of the criteria done in 2004
