Essay

The thesis analyzes the methods of artistic modeling of reality in the Ukrainian folklore. The focus is made on the presentation of the traditional ideal of man in various types and genres of the oral folk arts. It has been emphasized that the image of an ideal man is associated with honoring the cult of ancestors as well as glorification, lyrization as world exploration methods. The ideal past at the level of the public ideal has a direct relation to the mentality of a nation, patriotic ideas and is projected to the future, and at the family and ceremonial, personal life the ideal sphere is ascertained through idealization. Poetic modeling of the beautiful, representation of an ideal man depends not only on the world view of the nation, its mentality, but to some extent on the genre specificity of folk art works. The foundation of the poetic modeling in fairy tales is a fantastic element, where the desired becomes real; in legends, traditional stories, ballads and historical songs, the idealized element is generally dominated by patriotism through concepts of will, faith, and fame; in paroemiae, moral and ethic component of the ideal prevails; in Christmas carols and songs, the ideal domain is conveyed to the future; and in funeral lamentations the image of man is idealized through retrospection and statement of the present, yet projected on the future. The studies of the traditional ideal of man based on folklore types and genres have shown that there are persistent fundamental socio-normative components of the national world outlook and cultural concepts acting as a stabilizer of the spiritual and cultural development and optimizing the realm of the future justified by the logic of the national world outlook and culture.
