The objective of the research is to discover the peculiarities of representation of the cosmogonic picture of the world in phraseological units of Contemporary German and the specificity of their functioning in German fiction and publicistic literature. The object of the research is the phraseological units of Contemporary German, the free prototypes of which reflect the cosmogonic picture of the world. The subject of the research is the language means of implementation of a cosmogonic component of the meaning of phraseological units in Contemporary German fiction and publicistic literature. The methods of the research: the analysis of lexical definitions; component analysis of the meaning of linguistic units; continuous selection, descriptive; contextual and etymological analyses. The scientific novelty of the research consists in that the semantic groups of phraseological units with a cosmogonig component have been distinguished and characterized firstly such as earth, water, fire, air, sky. The functional and stylistic peculiarities of idioms which represent the cosmogonic picture of the world in Contemporary German fiction and publicistic texts have been determined. The theoretical value of the thesis consists in that the results are the contribution into the problems solution of linguistic culture and phraseological semantics. The practical value of the research is determined by the opportunity to use its principles and results in the theoretical courses of the lexicology and stylistics problems and also in special courses of the problems of linguistic culture, in scientific researches of students and post graduate students, in lexicographical practice.
