Essay

The process of studying of peasantry's history of the second half XIX - beginning XX century was investigated in dissertation. The basic stages of researching of theme, level of its scientific elaboration were described. We used the big complex of historiography sources (824). The analysis of modern Ukrainian historical literature is concern to such questions, as peasant's reforms and their consequences, agrarian policy of the state, farming and private enterprise in new market conditions, peasant's cooperation, evolution of landowning, peasant's movements and others. Historical works, dedicated to the problems of social history of peasantry, were analysed: mentality, social behaviour, peasant's notions and ideas. A transition from descriptive history of peasantry's way of life to the analytical study of historical and psychological, demographic, cultural subjects was described.
