It reveals the achievements and gaps in the study of this issue by the researchers of the Soviet period, the Ukrainians abroad and by the contemporary researchers of Ukraine. The author discovers the approaches and trends in the study of the Soviet authorities' policy in the cultural, educational, ecclesiastical and religious sphere in the chronologically determined period. The thesis also touches upon the exposition in the Ukrainian historiography of the issue of the Soviet authorities fighting the Ukrainian national liberation movement. It reveals the prospects of further study of the history of the Western regions of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1944-1953.
