The given paper provides the analysis of the S. Bellow's novels of the 1940-1960th which are considered as the integral phenomenon in problem-thematic and genre aspects. The leading themes, motifs, with a plot and compositional features of the American writer works are determined. Peculiarity of characterology and Bellow's creative method as well as principal concepts of Man and World and typology of protagonists are cleared up in thesis. It is revealed philosophical and religious problems influenced on the genre nature of Bellow's novels. The thesis also places emphasis on semantic and formal dominants of the author's artistic world. The complex study of intellectual and philosophical prose of the writer is carried out in the context of literature of American existentialism. S. Bellow's novel is considered as a "synthetic" genre having approved and adapted different genre forms (existential novel, picaresque novel, psychological and intellectual novels). The Bellow's novels are relevant to the intellectual and philosophical prose considered as imprescriptible part of the main stream of the American literature of the XX-th century.
