Svyatotska V. The Institution of Advocacy of Ukraine: establishment and development

The dissertation is devoted to the complex historical and legal analysis of the Institution of advocacy in Ukraine/ The thesis establishes historical continuity of the institution of advocacy as a crucial feature of its history; it also researches the legal status and functions of the defender in the court system of Kievan Rus during the stay of Ukrainian lands in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Rzeczpospolita, Russian and Austro-Hungarian Empires, Poland and the USSR in the XX century. The dissertation analyzes the correlation of the acquired experience and that of other states in the evolution of advocacy in Ukraine. The research paper formulates historical and legal bases of the concept of advocacy in contemporary Ukraine and on this basis the need to adapt to current requirements and standards of the European Union to the institute of advocacy is stipulated.
