Essay

The structural, semantic, pragmatic and linguistic cognitive characteristics of verbal composites in Modern German are investigated. The classification of verbal compounds is made according to the structural genetic type and according to the syntactic and semantic relationship among their components, four structural patterns of compound verbs A+V, S+V, V+V, Z+V are singled out and their lexical fillings are described, three semantic groups of verbal derivatives whose lexical meanings are clearly motivated, hidden or partially motivated and unmotivated are established. The connotation of the compound verbs is considered and their frame analysis is conducted.
