Zolotoverkh O. Diagnostics and surgical treatment of intervertebral discs hernias of thoracic spine

Dissertation is devoted to the problem of improvement of disgnostics and surgical treatment of spinal cord pathological fixation (SCPF) at children. The research is based on results on medical documentation study, diagnostics and surgical treatment of 107 patients with SCPF and syndrome of taut spinal cord (STSC) development, wich have been treated in department of pediatric neurosurgery of SI "Institute of neurosurgery named after acad. A.P. Romodanov of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" from 1990 to 2009. There were 54 (50.5%) male patients and 53 (49,5%) - female ones.All patients have been operated because of SCPF and/or associated disease (fydro-siringomielia, hydrocephalia, Chiari anomaly).The comparative analysis of results of diagnostics and treatment was made. Factors that promote SCPF were established, ideas about STSC were clarified. Frequency of SCPF occurrence after surgical interventions because of spinal dysraphysms was defined. Indications to STSC timely surgical treatment were developed. Methods of preventive maintenance of retethered spinal cord were developed. Surgical tactics concerning SCPF and accompanying CNS pathology was defined. Results of the research have raised efficiency and outlined ways for further improvement of diagnostics and surgical treatment at SCPF with STSC and accompanying pathology of CNS. Main results of this research have been provided into neurosurgical practice.
