Buchovsky V. Christianization of Britain and the formation of its Church organization in the 5th -8th centuries.

The present thesis considers the process of Christianization of Britain and the formation of its church organization in the 5th -8th centuries. The causes, period, and the main stages of the penetration of Christianity to the British Isles are identified and analyzed. The author evaluates the peculiarities of Celtic Church functioning and the rivalry between Celtic and Roman versions of Christianity. The essence of missionary Augustine's activity and his followers in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms is disclosed. Along with this the main forms of influence of Christianity on the development of church-artistic heritage of the British Isles are analyzed.
