Essay

Theories of fact and factuality have been critically considered from the position of the cognitive-discursive paradigm, which gave rise to a unified theory of factuality. A category system which reflects semantic, structural and linguopragmatic differences among facteme types has been developed. It is posited that factual interpretation of an utterance is dependent on the epistemological marking of an utterance, the way in which the speaker and his utterance are embedded into the discourse, and the context of an utterance.
