The dissertation is devoted to improving the system of adaptive redistribution of the capacity of a packet switch (a router or a multi-port gateway) to its ports by updating the mechanism of smoothing the pulsing flow of packets moving through these ports and by embedding a mechanism of smoothed flow prediction into the circuit of this system. Such improvement, as shown in the paper, should reduce adverse effect of system errors on the quality of adaptive control. The following principal elements of the technology of prediction of packet flow pulsations have been developed: prediction algorithms, decision-making procedures, appropriate software tools. Experimental studies of the efficiency of the developed prediction mechanisms have been done. The author specifies the speed as well as other ratings of prediction quality for the computational circuits employed to reproduce the developed prediction mechanisms.
