This research focuses on revealing cognitive and genre properties of English poetic drama. Genre properties of English poetic drama are defined according to the main categories of poetic and dramatic. The methodology of comprehensive analysis of English poetic drama is based on linguistic assumptions of poetics viewed from a cognitive perspective. The application of such analysis made it possible to reveal the world pictures (heroic-tragic, dramatic, symbolic and absurd), reconstructed on the criterion of pathos prevailing in English poetic drama. The conceptual space of English poetic drama is claimed to be formed by literary concepts which actualize the priorities of author's worldview. The model of conceptual space reflects an anthropocentric principle of depicting world picture in English poetic drama and the hierarchy of literary concepts verbalized in it. The specifics of imagery space of English poetic drama is clarified via linguistic and cognitive analysis of the types of verbal images. It is maintained that the properties of imaginary monologue-dialogue, grotesque dialogue, monologue-parable are predetermined by the dominant types of verbal poetic images: paradoxical, ambivalent or parabolic. Key words: poetic drama, pathos, conceptual space, genre properties, literary concept, image space, types of narration.
